Diagnose reason for acessory drive belt loss & repair.
On June 29 while traveling to Ouray, CO for our usual two week vacation in the mountains for the independence day celebrations, the red light came on, indicating no cooling, and no alternator function. Pulled over to discover the fan belt was missing. While awaiting a tow, the local sheriff stopped by to verify that we were "OK", and gave us the name & number of a local mobile repair person. Approx. 6 hours later, the tow truck/wrecker arrived, and towed us the final approx 20 miles to the KOA, arriving shortly after midnight. When I called Harlan the next morning, he responded promptly, and indicated he was already booked for the day but would arrive the following morning @ 7:45. He was good to his word and arrived on July 1st as promised, and began work. Within a short time (less than an hour), he discovered that the alternator pivot was loose and both the alternator mounting bracket and the alternator pivot holes were worn beyond the ability to re-use and obtain proper belt- to-component alignment. The following morning, Harlan called to indicate he had located and ordered the necessary repair parts, which were coming in from the Kansas City area, and were scheduled to arrive the 6th of July, and that he would be ready to install the parts on the 7th. True to his word again, he called the evening of the 6th to confirm that we would be available, and on the morning of the 7th, arrived with proper parts, and had the repairs done by noon. |

Harlan's workmanship is top-notch. His knowledge of diesel engines in
general, and diagnostic skills for diesels, and pusher RV's are top-notch. Hourly rates charged for his services and expertise are well within acceptable ranges, with the total repairs (including the parts) costing less than half of the tow-bill for the final 20 miles of being towed into the campground. I highly recommend Harlan for anyone in the general area of Ridgeway, Ouray, Montrose, who experiences issues with their RV. |
