  Date of Service:   9/29/2010
  Company Contact:   Bryan Murdock
Work Done on:   Class A - Gasoline
Service Performed:   On August 2,2010 My wife and I were on our way to the Smokey Mountains to spend a few days, while driving between Hartwell and Lavonia Georgia, the brakes went out on our motor home, not a good feeling while driving a 20,000 pounds plus motor home. By shifting to low range, I managed to slow the motor home down enough to make our turn and drove very slow to a church parking lot which had an upgrade allowing me to stop the motor home, parking brakes of no help on this model, they only apply brakes to the drive shaft. I called my towing service, which was fantastic. They called a tow truck, the tow truck towed the motor home to Ed Murdocks Supper store.

Ed Murdocks Ford/Chrysler Super store of Lavonia Georgia told my towing service they could fix the brake problem. Our motor home has a Ford chassis. Luckily we were only about two hours from home and drove the tow vehicle home. Then we had to make another trip to remove all the perishables from the motor home.

It was six weeks later on September 17, with many calls to Ed Murdocks before they even looked at the brake problem. Not only were they slow about finding the problem but doidnt sound like professional mechanics, they test drove the motor home on the highway and had some brakes not good brakes, then they bled the brakes, had brakes at times then, no brakes and then decided that the masters cylinder was bad, I had figured this out the same day I lost the brakes, (brake reservoir full and no pedal) sounded like a bad master cylinder to me). Why would you test drive a motor home that had been towed in for no brakes, sounds dangerous to me. In my first conservation with them, I told them I thought it was a bad master cylinder. Ed Murdocks personnel only called me once and returned one of my calls, all the rest of the calls I had to make to them.

I called Ed Murdocks on September 24, and the service manager stated that they had installed the new master cylinder, bled the brakes, and still needed to check out the motor home to make sure it was fixed and would call back and let me know when to pick up the motor home. Ed Murdock never called to advise when I could pick up the Motor Home, so on September 29, I drove the tow vehicle to Ed Murdocks and the motor home was ready to be picked up, but it took them 30 minutes to complete the paper work.
The prices for parts and labor was outrageous, I understand why the labor was so high because the technician did not know what he was doing in analyzing the problem with the brakes. The motor home was at Ed Murdocks for, 58 days, to replace two belts on the engine, install the drive shaft, drive shaft was removed by the tow truck driver, and install a new brake master cylinder. The engine belts were replaced because the house batteries were dead from the motor home sitting so long and not plugged into shore power, when they cranked the motor home the alternator tried to charge all three batteries and threw the belt, I then asked them to replace both engine belts. I had also had asked them to check the brake pads, replace them if necessary and pack the wheel bearings with grease, they stated that brake pads were OK, I have my doubts about them checking the brake pads without taking the wheels off, if the wheels were off the wheel bearings would have been easy to pack, but they didnt pack the wheel bearings.
Evaluation of Service Performed:   Please do not take your vehicle to Ed Murdocks for repairs unless you are willing to make many calls to them, with no return calls, and are willing to wait a couple of months for minor work to be done.

Not all of our troubles on the road have been bad experiences, on July 5th 2001 Metro Ford dealership in Tupelo Mississippi repaired our dash air conditioning in a few hours while we toured Tupelo, and on 2/3/2006 while we were on a church mission trip to help the people in Gulf Port Mississippi Coastal Ford in Mobile Alabama replaced the ignition system modules the next day these two Ford dealerships gave us fantastic service and we would recommend them for your repairs.
